Permits and practicalities

The bits peopledon't think about.

  • On the pavement or road?

    A scaffold that stands on a public pavement or road needs a licence from the local highway authority: Derbyshire County Council for Ilkeston, Erewash and Amber Valley, Derby City Council in Derby, Nottinghamshire County Council across the county, and Nottingham City Council in the city. Councils ask for notice, at least two weeks in Derby, so tell us early. We'll say at the quote whether you need one.

  • Next door's side?

    If the scaffold needs to stand on a neighbour's land, you'll need their say-so first. Most neighbours are fine once they know what's going up and for how long, and Danny can explain what's involved.

  • Parking and access

    We need to get close to unload. If there's a skip, a van or cars on the drive, mention it when you book so the space is clear on the day.

  • Keeping it secure

    A scaffold can make upstairs windows easier to reach, so keep them locked while it's up. We take down or lock off the access ladders at the end of each working day.
