Flat roofs
A flat roof needs protecting all the way round, including where people get on and off. We plan that at the visit.
On the pavement or road?
A scaffold on a public pavement or road needs a licence from the council's highways team, and councils ask for notice, so tell us early. We'll say at the quote whether you need one, and we apply for it for you.
Keeping it secure
Keep upstairs windows locked while it's up. We take down or lock off the access ladders at the end of each working day.

Guard rails and toe boards fixed along an open edge, usually a roof edge, so nobody and nothing falls off while work goes on.
Where people work at an edge they could fall from, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 require measures to prevent falls, and guard rails are the standard way to do it. Top rails must be at least 950mm high, with no gap over 470mm between rails.
If anyone is working near the edge of a flat roof, yes, they need protection from falling. Scaffold guard rails round the edge are the simplest way to do it.
It's built from scaffold, but it's the rail at the edge rather than a full working platform. If the job needs a platform to stand on as well, you want roofing scaffolding.
