Heanor houses
Coal, laceand red brick.
Heanor grew on coal and textiles. In 1848 its collieries employed more than 2,000 people, and silk, cotton, hosiery and lace were all made in the town. The last local colliery, Ormonde, finished production in 1970.
The Market Place took shape in the 1890s, when the Heanor Hall estate was broken up. Older listed houses, like the pair on Derby Road, are red brick with stone dressings and slate roofs. In Loscoe, some of the oldest houses along the High Street were once thatched cottages.
Loscoe grew a lot in the second half of the 20th century, with a council estate and other new housing. Each needs a different scaffold, and Danny looks at the house before pricing it.
