Framework knitting was once Hucknall's main industry, and it was a colliery town from 1861 to 1986. Between 1871 and 1881 the population more than doubled, from 4,500 to over 10,000, and from the 1930s Rolls-Royce flight-tested engines at Hucknall airfield.

The streets close to the town centre are Victorian terraces. On Watnall Road, the mining company built three-storey houses with large cellars for its staff in 1874, known locally as Deputies Row. The town centre is a conservation area.

Housing spread out from the 1950s, and the former Rolls-Royce land at Westville is now new homes. Each needs a different scaffold, and Danny looks at the house before pricing it.
